I did something I actually thought I'd never do again.
I bought eggs at the store.
The ladies seem to be on strike. The 12 of them lay maybe one egg a day. If we're lucky. This is down from a high last year of 11 eggs a day.
It's not the daylight. They've been on strike for months now. The only thing I can come up with is that they molted this year, and they've put all their energy into making new feathers. But what do I know? Anyway, I wanted to make matzoh ball soup for dinner, so I knew I'd need like four eggs to make the balls because we all like to consume mass quantities of those. So I was at the store buying wipes and milk and I had to buy a dozen large cage free eggs, which I haven't done in probably a year and a half. I have to say, it was a bummer!

There is a reason why chicken soup is popular in the late fall. The egg production will come back after the new feathers are in and a light on a timer is set up in the coop. They need about 16 hours of daylight per day.

I am a big fan of your matzoh ball soup! And so is my dad, who shared some with me many moons ago when JZ was convalescing. It's worth it, wherever the eggs come from. :)
