Just the other day I told Jeff and Alissa that if we had another baby and it was a boy, I'd consider the name Oscar. (No, I'm not trying to tell you anything.)
Today I received a Pottery Barn Kids catalog that featured Oscar on personalized sheets, which means Oscar has jumped the shark. But I will also point out that PBK has bedding named Charlie and bedding named Summer.
please, tell me you're kidding. oscar? that kid would be getting Grouch comments his entire life.
please.
anything but oscar.
i will not babysit a kid named oscar.
...well, that last is a lie. if he's yours, i'll love him anyways. but, think of his poor little psyche. it's like naming a kid ursula. no.

I think Ursula has a certain panache.

Hmmmmm. Has Oscar jumped the shark? I don't think so! But let's go to the experts. Have you seen the Baby Name Wizard, which shows you a graph of the name's popularity? Oscar was HUGE in the 1890s, took an extremely big dip, and is making a bit of a comeback. In 2006 it was ranked 118, that's not too common!
And, despite going on this site constantly for the last week - I'm not trying to tell you anything either :)

Here's the lowdown on popular boys' names (preK - first) - so that the child must be identified by last initial: Brendan, Colin, Lucas or Luke, Max, and Harrison. The up and coming name: Brady. No Oscars!
As for the girls, apparently Bailey is back in style (and not for dogs), Caroline is huge, and Ella remains popular.
You might want to try Grover - after the president or the Sesame St. guy (friendlier than the grouch) or as the celebrities seem to like "Pilot Inspector" - why not go for "Cookie Monster" (that would go well with your last name!)

Are you sure you're not trying to tell us anything? Because your last 15 posts about the house have had "NESTING" written all over them.

118 is hugely popular! HUGE! I luuuuuuuurv the Baby Name Wizard, no matter where I am in the endless cycle of pregnancies, miscarriages, and bologna binges.
It's true that we'll need a bigger house if we have another kid, but we kind of need a bigger house already, what with Jeff's shoes being the size of furniture, and the chickens taking over half the kitchen, and recent explosion in wooden railway track and Matchbox car acquisition, etc. etc.

P.S. by the way--GROVER! PERFECT!
